In accordance with the policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact information a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date at all times. At the same time, this info is openly visible on WHOIS lookup sites and while this may be okay for companies, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because everybody can see their names and their personal email and postal addresses, particularly in an age when identity theft isn’t that unusual. That is why domain name registrars have launched a service that hides the details of their customers without altering them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. In case it is active, people will see the details of the domain registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they perform a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain name extensions, but it is still impossible to conceal your personal information with some country-code extensions.
Whois Privacy Protection in Website Hosting
If you order a website hosting plan from us, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names as long as their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain name and enable Whois Privacy Protection upon registration or you can enable the service for any of your domain names at any moment afterwards via the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is unbelievably easy – once you log in, you’ll have to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll see a list of all the domains that you’ve registered through our company. For each of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” button, which will let you know if the service is active or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain name, or you can deactivate the service if it is currently active.
Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you want to conceal the contact details associated with your domain name and you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to activate our Whois Privacy Protection service either during the registration process or at any moment later through your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The service is optional and can be enabled with a few clicks from the Registered Domains section of the Control Panel where all the domains that you have registered with us will be listed in alphabetical order. You can enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of the top-level domain name extensions that support this service by simply clicking the “Whois Privacy Protection” sign next to each domain name. In the same way, you can also renew the service or remove it – if you would like to transfer a domain name to another domain registrar and you need the actual email account associated with the domain to be visible.
